MSM "All In" Conference
What is the “ALL IN” Conference?
The “ALL IN” conference will be a special time of fasting, reflection, and serving as the middle school ministry teams up with the Knoxville Dream Center (KDC) and Global Infusion (GI) to fight local and global hunger. We begin fasting after lunch on Friday March 31 and then meet at Park West Church in the Teen Cafe at 7:30 p.m. for a time of prayer and dedication of our fast to God.
Our weekend consists of a lock-in, prayer walks, special services, community projects, and breaking of fast together at 4:00 p.m. on Saturday. Our middle schoolers are encouraged to raise at least $300 per person which is enough money to help keep 1 child alive for 1 year. If every youth that participated reached that goal then we could save 25-30 lives a year! PLEASE NOTE THIS EVENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 50 STUDENTS WHO REGISTER!
Why should my middle schooler attend?
Hunger-related causes kill nearly 8,000 children a day, but your son or daughter and their friends can do something to help change this. The funds they raise will help care for hungry kids and support sustainable change in communities around the world.
What will the money go to?
We are teaming together with Global Infusion (GI) to raise money to help feed children and families in Guatemala.
The food packs Global Infusion will be handing out typically include: rice, beans, oil, salt, sugar, that powdered nutritional/all-in-one cereal, and then depending on the season, we add other items too. Total weight per bag is usually between 40-50lbs.
This is a one-month food supply for a family. Most of these families are (Central) American Indians, and do not speak Spanish. They are coffee workers, so they only have employment about 6 months of the year, and when they are employed, they work 7 days a week, and are paid between $1-$2 USD for every 100 lb bag of coffee that they pick. Kids work too.
So to review….
$25 = One 40-50 lb bag of food that can sustain one entire Guatemalan family for 1 month.
We typically feed about 50 families per village, so $1200 would cover the actual food costs for one village outreach.
If we ever raise more, we can either add more food to each pack, or feed more families. That is dependent on the contact.
Lastly, most of these 50 pound bags are carried away by women, or Middle-School aged kids.
A schedule of events will be posted in the coming weeks.
