"RENEW" Middle School Fall Retreat
October 21st - October 23rd, 2016
WHAT IS "RENEW"?
The MSM Fall Retreat is coming Oct 21-23 at Long View Ranch. Our theme this year is “ RENEW” and comes out of Mark 12:30 where Jesus explains the greatest commandment: “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” This retreat will help students understand the importance of loving the Lord this way and to show how they can do it in their everyday lives. This week will help our MSM students to grow in faith and live out what God is calling them to RENEW. The retreat will include corporate worship services, small group discussions, private reflection times, team-building games and powerful times of prayer. We will also have tons of other activities planned for the weekend.
WHO IS IT FOR?
“Renew" Fall Retreat is open to all middle school students and their friends (6th-8th grades only).
WHEN IS IT?
“Renew" Fall Retreat will begin on Friday, Oct. 21 and end on Sunday, Oct. 23. We will meet at Park West Church that Friday at 4:00 PM and plan to arrive back at the church the following Sunday at 12:30 PM.
WHERE WILL IT TAKE PLACE?
“Renew" Fall Retreat will take place at Long View Ranch in Mosheim, TN. It is approximately a 1.25 hour drive from Knoxville.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
“Renew" Fall Retreat costs a total of $90 per student. This amount is all-inclusive. Your child will not need any additional spending money. A non-refundable deposit of $40 is due Wednesday, September 14th to secure a spot. The remaining balance is due by Wednesday, October 12th. Of course, you may pay the whole amount up front. AFTER SEPTEMBER 21ST, THE TOTAL COST GOES UP TO $110.
A $20 sibling discount is available for students who have siblings attending. We want to make it easier for families with multiple middle schoolers in the home.
WHAT ARE THE LESSON TOPICS IN RENEW?
1) RENEW Your Heart: Romans 6:15–18 – Our students and even we, ourselves, might be involved in ministry, serving others and going to Bible studies. But as tasks, service projects, and events add up, we need to consider why we do these things. Even the right thing done for the wrong reason can be harmful. It all starts with the heart.
2) RENEW Your Mind: Ephesians 4:17–24 – It’s easy to say one thing and think another, and while the person listening to us might not know the difference, God does. Loving God with our mind goes beyond a feeling or an attitude; it involves our focus, creativity, imaginations, and commitment to truth.
3) RENEW Your Strength: 2 Corinthians 12:9–10 – Our strength is all of our efforts and our actions. It’s our service, our dedication, and our tenacity. Usually our efforts fall into two categories: what we’re good at and what we aren’t. In this session, students will take a look at how they can love God not only when they’re good at something or when it’s easy, but when it’s hard and seems beyond their ability.
4) RENEW Your Soul: Mark 8:34–37 – Students will look at their priorities and the things keeping them from giving all of themselves to Christ. To love God with our soul means to be all-in and to love him with all your life. It means we don’t fall for distractions or get sidetracked by seeing things from a shortsighted position. Instead we change our focus from the temporary treasures of this world to our eternal life with God.

WHAT IS IT?
This year’s High School Ministry Fall Retreat, “Reach The Peak,” will focus on understanding the highs and lows of our spiritual journey and how to navigate through the different terrains and elements encountered along the way.
